Verizon Fios, the company’s fiber optic network, seems to be experiencing outages in lots of places on the US East Coast.
There are greater than 22,000 user reports of problems with Verizon on Downdetector, and there seem like hotspots on Downdetector’s outage map for Verizon in Boston, New York City, Washington, DC, and more. A number of Verge staffers are experiencing outages as nicely.
Many people on Twitter are also reporting points with their Fios service. Verizon’s assist account has replied to some people reporting problems, saying that it has been “informed of a possible outage within the space.” The account also said there was a fiber reduce in Brooklyn, which could possibly be the reason for the problems for some.
@VerizonSupport @verizonfios What's going on with Fios in NYC? My connection is either VERY slow or keeps dropping. Looks like others are experiencing the same thing across NY/NJ.

People have also reported points with Google, Zoom, Gmail, and more on Downdetector, however the reports seem like coming from the same locations which might be experiencing problems with Fios. Google and Zoom’s standing pages aren’t exhibiting any outages, so it’s possible problems with these companies on the East Coast are tied to the Fios outage.
We’ve requested Verizon to remark, and the company says it’s trying into it now.
