Valisure has released a report earlier this month, saying that Old Spice and Secret Body Spray products have been found with traces of benzene, a known cancer-causing ingredient that is harmful to humans. The company has submitted this report to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well, calling for a recall of the product.

The testing of Valisure is also known for its different findings on most consumer products, more importantly, its initial discovery of benzene on sunscreens, and now, antiperspirants. Of course, this is of concern to those that use Old Spice and Secret Body Spray products daily, as they are an over-the-counter purchase from most groceries, convenience stores, and the like.

Procter & Gamble Issues Voluntary Recall for its Products

Due to this report, the FDA has released a voluntary recall that was submitted by Procter & Gamble, something that looks at the best interest of the public and their consumers. The voluntary recall from P&G would pull out its products sold on major chains immediately, to stop its distribution that is known to have components with benzene.

What is Benzene? Sunscreens Too

Benzene is a known cancer-causing ingredient, ergo “carcinogen,” which are seen in most plastics, cigarette smoke, crude oil, and more, all of which are known to be toxic to humans when put on skin or ingested. An alarm regarding the products of Johnson & Johnson’s and Aveeno has seen that its sunscreen sprays and lotion contain this substance, having a recall as well.

Initially, there have been traces of benzene found on Coca-Cola and Fanta products as well, and it has been declared as a poisonous drink before its recall and fixing its ingredients. And while a small amount of benzene is not enough to cause cancer, accumulated quantity over time can contribute to its development in humans.

Deodorants and antiperspirants are known to be a daily use for those who are going out every day and it is a consumer product that is frequently bought in the marketplace. The presence of benzene on this is really dangerous for a person’s health, especially as it can accumulate amounts of carcinogen that can lead to a severe health condition.
